Climby McClimberson

So last night I was cleaning and re-arranging Asher's room for a few minutes, and I walk back into the living room and find him doing this. 

I had to stop the video because he proceeded to climb on top of the coffe table and stand up on top of it.  I have my hands full!  Earlier the same night, I walked into the kitchen and found him sitting in our kitchen chairs (which are gathering table height) sitting at the table eating Cheerios off of his high chair tray from earlier that morning (no, I don't have time in the mornings to clean up the mess we make at breakfast).  He has never gotten up there before, nor did it ever occur to him to climb up that high on the chair. 

Oh, and yet another climbing story to share.  Earlier this week, Asher and I went to Robbie's softball game in Ridgeland.  I didn't get to watch much of the game because I was having too much fun chasing a toddler around the complex.  Asher saw Robbie in the dugout and toddled over there to his Dada.  He realized a fence was blocking his way, so he proceeded to climb up the fence... like he had been doing that his whole life!  Where did he learn that?!  He climbed up 4 links of the fence before we even noticed what he was doing.

I guess we're going to have to watch him like a hawk now.  But let's face it, gone are the days when I can protect my baby from falls, cuts, and scrapes.  He is too much of an adventurer.  Boys will be boys.   

Baby Sayers On The Way!

Congratulations to Heather and David on becoming expectant parents!  We don't know many details yet, but baby Sayers should make his or her debut sometime in November.  I'm super excited to get to spoil another neice or nephew and have many play dates in the future.  We love ya'll!

Another Video

He has taken up to 8 steps so far, but he's mostly taking step after step as fast as he can so he can dive head first into your lap.  This video actually shows him keeping his balance...until the end!

My baby is growing up

My mother in law has been a dear these past two weeks while we were on vacation and emailed us a few videos of Asher. This is my favorite one.

Mmmmm...Spaghetti!

We all know spaghetti is my favorite dinner. I think it's Asher's favorite, too!

Asher's 1st Birthday

Asher turned ONE on January 31, 2011!  I can't believe my baby is now a toddler.  I don't like this cheesy expression, but time really does fly by.  I really enjoy Asher more and more the older he gets.  It's so fun to watch him grow and learn new things.  I am one proud mama! 

This year I hope to take advantage of this time by documenting our life together on a more consistent basis.  Hopefully a year from now I'll be able to look back on 2011 and remember happy times, first steps, bumps and bruises, how much he's grown, etc. 

Now on to the birthday party!  I organized an alphabet themed party for Asher's first.  Think wooden alphabet blocks, which was the basis of my decorations.  I pondered for a long time on finding the perfect (a.k.a. impressive) theme for his birthday party, but then I realized he's a baby!  I wanted it to be baby-ish.  I wanted something fun for the kids - after all, it's Asher's party not my party.  That's why I chose primary colors of blue, yellow and red (and threw green in there as well) with all kinds of letters, numbers and balloons everywhere.  

This is his invitation, which I think matched the cake perfectly.

We had a fantastic cake, which I ate for days.  I think it tasted better and better every day.  My cousin's wife, Sherry, made the cake.  She is so talented! 

Asher liked the cake, too.  He mostly got handfuls of icing and never really got to the bread. 

Guests were greeted by these birthday balloon wreaths which I made.

The food table consisted of meatballs, sausage balls, corn dip, fruits, and a chocolate cheeseball.  All but the cheeseball were made by the grandparents.  They came to my rescue since we had to go out of town the two days before the party.  I made this centerpiece for the food table:

I wanted a place where Asher and his friends could play on the floor since our house is mostly concrete floors.  This was a nice little alphabet puzzle mat that his Nana and Papa gave him for his birthday.  I think it came in handy and it's something Asher can play with for years.
